Pantone announces the 2024 color of the year: Peach Fuzz.
Peach fuzz, described as a velvety soft peach, was a color chosen as our 2024 color of the year for its tender nature, youthfulness and timelessness. I can appreciate the romantic way of describing it, and I do find it pretty, but part of me finds the color a little… dated?
As far as determining the timeliness of it moving into the current spotlight, I can’t help but picture the last few summers passed when Pinterest feeds exploded of peachy-salmon colored nail polish and clothing on tanned skin. Looking out at what’s been more popular lately, the color hasn’t exactly been riding a new wave of relevance. But maybe the time has come for it to have a rebrand.
Peach Fuzz also comes only five years after Living Coral, the 2019 Color of the year. Is it a bit repetitive? Something tells me Pantone was well aware of their color history, especially so recent as the last 5 years back, and even so still felt peach fuzz was the one. But why?

*2024
After reading why Pantone chose peach fuzz, I can definitely see the appeal. Described as a color that feels like a sanctuary, or a moment of silliness or closeness during a time where the world is in turmoil, (unfortunate agree,) the color acts like a soft landing that many of us may need to see in our prickly and unstable feeling environment.
Critiques aside- I can concede that peach fuzz is awfully cozy and disarming. I’ve even become enthusiastic about playing with it myself.
So how might we see it threaded into 2024’s beauty choices?
I’ve always opted for feminine pinks, reds, and berrys before the corals and peaches. When you’re dealing with a shade so closely related to orange, it may require a little finesse which feels intimidating. I admit I always shied away from those shade options with the assumption that they wouldn’t be flattering on me. I’m curious who feels the same. Tap your opinion on the poll below and let me know.
Don’t worry, I dug through peachy Pinterest beauty every which way so you didn’t have to.
And I have to say, not only is there a lack of representation of this color in makeup looks in general, but within those looks, there’s a lack of representation of it on deeper skin tones. Why is that?
Well, the color exactly as seen is a pastel. Pastel makeup shades with sheer formulas will act as a soft flush of color on fair and lighter skin tones, but they can completely disappear on richer complexions— leaving behind maybe the faintest kiss or glimmer of peach. Tanner and deeper skin tones should opt for more opaque formulas if looking for this pastel shade to hold its own, (such as this Juvia’s place liquid blush in “marigold.”)
Another way to go is to select a peachy-inspired shade that is richer itself, such as a mid toned, vibrant coral, or a warm, peachy pink. These offer more depth and warmth for the complexion. It’s not cheating to make it your own.
Don’t know where to start? Fear not! There are many options.
If you can’t picture a peachy makeup look on yourself, check out the beauty board below for inspiration:
beauty board

All over muted, soft peachy makeup
Beauty Board 1, 2, 3. Try a multi use creamy product and softly dab, swipe, and blend color on eyelids, cheeks, and lips.

Peachy complexion, bold lip
Beauty Board 4 & 5. Go for nude peachy tones on eye and cheeks, then add a bold pop of color on the lip. Try red, a fuschia, or a berry. I tried a couple below:

Peachy soft glam
Beauty Board 6 & 7. Start with a warm, glowy primer. Use peach toned warm nudes of varying depths all over the face to create a soft glam moment. Touch shimmer to the lids of the eyes or sweep all over. Compliment the look with a peach nude lip- either apply a glossy peach color all over lip or outline the lip in a soft, warm, brown lip liner and apply a more opaque peachy nude lip color to the center (6.)

Peachy blush & lips, defined eye
Beauty Board 9. Find a nude peach toned blush and lip that compliments your complexion- often these shades are named “peach, coral, melon,” etc., Multi-use products are ideal because you can stick with the same shade and create a monochromatic moment. Then give yourself distinction in the eyes with black winged liner or a rich smoked shadow.

It’s safe to say I’ve certainly warmed up to Peach Fuzz and am open to welcoming more of it into my makeup collection, closet, and surroundings this year. I’m curious to observe how others will be incorporating it too.
